Japan begins accepting applications for "vaccine passport"
The Japanese government began accepting applications for a "vaccine passport" on the 26th. Those who have completed the new crown vaccination can use this certificate to exempt them from isolation when they travel to specific countries.
The Japanese government said that as of the 21st, countries that recognize Japan’s “vaccine passport” include Italy, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria and Poland. In addition, South Korea recognizes the Japanese "vaccine passport" as one of the materials required for exemption from quarantine. Japan is negotiating with other countries to expand the scope of the "vaccine passport".
Applicants can present their passports, vaccination coupons and application forms to the designated locations of the local government or apply by mail.
At this stage, the Japanese government only accepts paper applications and issues paper "vaccine passports." It is expected that electronic applications and certificates will be introduced in the future.
At a public health center in Minato Ward, Tokyo, some business people and foreign residents went to apply for a "vaccine passport" on the morning of the 26th.
The Japan Federation of Economic Organizations (Kiduan Federation) once proposed to use "vaccine passports" in the country to relax restrictions on the number of people in large-scale events. However, this suggestion was not adopted because it might increase the burden on local governments and discriminate against people who have not been vaccinated.
